Final Day of Hawaii Shopaholics
As One Chapter Closes, Another One Opens
And like that today is my last day to blog on Hawaiishopaholics.com. As this chapter comes to a close a new chapter is opening so remember to continue to follow along on theSpenderella.com. As I write this I am shedding some tears because Hawaiishopaholics.com has become much more than a blog to me but a wonderful community of friends. I can only hope that thespenderella.com continues to have you all as readers and friends.
Thank You Readers of Hawaii Shopaholics
Thanks to everyone who has attended a Coupon Class, a Grocery Swap, a Coupon Swap or even the Coupon Social. My purpose of starting this site was to create a community and to teach ethical couponing. I believe I have accomplished my mission and continue to see so many couponers that have met from couponing stay in touch via Facebook and more. I am proud of the over 60 coupon instructors I have trained in Hawaii that continue to teach couponing and share what they know about couponing. I believe couponing will continue in the islands for years to come. This makes my heart so filled with joy as I remember moving to the islands in 2010 and had to tackle how to couponing at each store – with many stores not having actual written coupon policies like Times, Foodland and etc. I remember walking into many stores and never running into a couponer. How the times have changed, as I often see many couponers are tagging other couponers on deals and how they ran into each other at stores or are meeting for their first time in stores. This makes me so happy to know a coupon community was born in Hawaii where friends are being made and are sharing deals with each other. I hope you all continue to live a frugal lifestyle in Paradise.
I will never forget the out pouring of love the Shopaholics family has shown me and my family. I have truly met wonderful people through this site that will continue to be my friends. Thanks to the shopaholics who surprised me with special gifts along the way to teach me how awesome the Hawaiian culture is. Thanks to the Shopaholics who surprised me with a baby shower – over 50 of you attended! That was one of the best days – being away from family I never thought I would have a baby shower and somehow some way you guys pulled together and surprised me after a Grocery Swap. That was one of the sweetest and most unforgettable moments! Thank you to everyone who attended, who gave gifts for sweet Avery and most importantly for sticking with us through this crazy journey of life.
A funny story is when a coupon friend texted me and said she left me Okole Bread on my porch. As I was already living in Hawaii for a couple of years I knew what Okole meant, so you can only imagine what was going through my head. I didn’t want to be mean and question what she left so I was like thanks. I got home and I must say this was very delicious bread and not what my head imagined. I have learned a lot and appreciate each and every one of you!
Another funny moment was the day I was featured on the cover of the magazine – Midweek! Friends were taking pictures and sending them over. I had no idea I was going to be on the cover. The Midweek only said they wanted to do a story about couponing. I never knew what was involved – I had 2 ladies show up at my home, one to take pictures and the other to interview me. The photographer was like I have this idea to cover you with coupons – let me tell you I had to sit still and in an odd angle for over an hour to take those photos. I had no idea it was going to be on the cover of a magazine. Also, the picture of throwing coupons in the air took over an hour for her to get 1 picture and what a mess that was to clean up all those coupons. I was never sent proofs of the article so I had no idea what was eventually going to be printed. However, when friends started to share I was on the cover; I was so excited and shared on my social media. I remember my mom calling me right away and asking if I had clothes on. I will never forget that call. I was like yes mom, I had on beige shorts and a beige skin tone shirt. If you look closely you will see them. This was a fun article to highlight couponing and to get so many interested into couponing!
As Seen On:
And before the article in the Midweek, I was featured in October 2012 on KITV news which many of you saw and was named Hawaii’s Coupon Queen. This was a fun series as many Shopaholics participated in a Coupon Swap at Wendy’s where Wendy’s gave us free meals. We then headed to Target Kapolei to show how to coupon at the store! It was fun and I have to thank my friend Lihn (my coupon buddy) who helped me along the way. We were definitely a dynamic duo and she made me a better couponer. I highly recommend having a coupon buddy! By the way, I never referred to myself at Hawaii’s Coupon Queen but the news lady on KITV News called me Hawaii’s Coupon Queen and it stuck as it was repeated again in the Midweek. I had several people spot me in stores after these two media outlets called me Hawaii’s Coupon Queen and they referred to me.
Thanks to everyone who supported the Book – Couponing in Hawaii. It was a fun journey to write and publish a book for Hawaii. The book will still be on sale on the new website – Thespenderella.com with an entire tab to Hawaii. I will not leave my Hawaii readers out to dry so I will continue to look at the Hawaii Ads and find deals. I will continue to have the Coupon Database and the Hawaii Coupon Match Up list. I will not be doing a mainland Coupon Match Up list but will continue to have the Hawaii Match Up’s on the new website – Thespenderella.com.
The Spenderella is Born:
As I transition into a new blog focusing on online shopping, I will never forget the coupon community. I will still have a coupon section on the blog but as most of you have noticed the coupon world is changing and the military has moved us away from Hawaii. Therefore, I thought after over a year of living away from Hawaii and the military confirming they do not see my husband’s career taking him back to Hawaii for the next couple of tours that I needed to change the name to thespenderella.com.
How thespenderella.com came about:
I knew a few months ago I wanted to change names. I sat up for months trying to find a domain that wasn’t being used with no luck. I finally reached out to a friend, Colleen – some of you may know her she attended Grocery Swaps, Coupon Swaps and Coupon Classes- she mentioned spenderella and it clicked. A light bulb went off and I remembered one of my good neighbors in Hawaii use to call his wife Spenderella and I was like that is it! That is the name – Spenderella. I went to find a domain (website address) that wasn’t being used yet and thespenderella.com was born. I wasted no time after talking to Colleen, literally same night I bought the domain. This was over 3 months ago when the planning of switching website names was born.
Starting tomorrow when you visit Hawaiishopaholics.com you will be automatically redirected to thespenderella.com. I will say not all the kinks are worked out yet, but I am working on it in the background. For now, you will see all social media like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and more converting to thespenderella.com with new images associated with the rebranding.
As you can imagine for the last 4+ years Hawaiishopaholics.com has been my pride and joy so it breaks my heart to let go of it and the thousands of post I have made over the years. Can you imagine having to say goodbye to something you have nurtured and made an awesome website that hundreds of people come to everyday. I have moved over 100 post that I believe are the meat and bread of the website. I will be working behind the scenes for the next couple of weeks to revamp those posts and to make them into The Spenderella’s posts!
Again, thank you for being loyal readers of Hawaii Shopaholics. Please help share this post with your friends and family so they know about the changes of Hawaii Shopaholics into The Spenderella. I hope you continue to follow along and read the new blog of thespenderella.com. I am excited to start blogging on the new site tomorrow – Monday, August 15th!
Tomorrow a New Chapter! The Spenderella will be born!!
