Blurb – Be a Creator of Your Own Book
Have you ever dreamed of being an author? Have you ever dreamed of making a book? If so, sit tight and finish reading this post.
I was recently introduced to this cool website Blurb. I was able to create an online photo book through a very simple program that allowed me to pick out page colors, how the photos were laid out, and more.
A little back story:
I remember growing up and my mom taking me to a scrapbook store so she could pick paper and accessories for her to make her scrapbooks. We use to spend hours at this scrapbook store and the only part I enjoyed was stickers and glueing stuff down for my mom. Fast forward to 20 years and here I am starting to want to compile fun books of pictures of my life.
My friend here in Georgia has an entire bookshelf of photo books she creates of her family. I figured it was about time I played catch up and created a book to highlight Kevin’s and my life of the last 12 years. What a book! I kept it simple and probably the most timely part of the entire process was digging through tens of thousands of pictures from the last 12 years. Yes I am one of those picture takers that takes hundreds of pictures a month.
In 2006, Blurb was created by Eileen Gittins with the desire to publish a book without taking out a second mortgage. If you have followed me for awhile, you know I wrote, and published, a book in 2013 called Couponing in Hawaii. So believe me when I say, I can relate to the cost associated with publishing a book – I feel your pain! Eileen wanted Blurb to be a platform where creators could come and publish one, ten, 50 or 100 beautiful bookstore-quality books on premium paper with a quality binding. As of today, Blurb has printed over two million books from photo books, cookbooks, travel books, children’s books, graphic novels and more. Blurb was built for personal book-makers, authors of all kinds, creative professionals, small businesses, you name it.
Process of Creating Photo Book:
The first thing you will do is pick out the size, cover and paper of your book. Next, you will download the Blurb photo book creator called Bookwright, and start building your book. For me, the most time consuming process was going back 12 years and picking out the best photos to feature in the book. However, downloading photos into Bookwright was easy and fast, so that made things go a lot smoother. Next, it was time to arrange and group all the photos then choose how they were oriented on the pages. After you finished where you wanted each picture, you could change the page color to better compliment your pictures. After that, you’re done! Simply click finish and go through the steps to upload the book that you just created in Bookwright to Blurb to complete your order.
I really enjoyed working on creating my photo book on Bookwright. It was a simple process and pretty straight forward for this first time photo book creator to create. In addition, Bookwright allows you to create the book while offline, so you can work on your book on the go and not worry about losing any of your progress or material.

I personally love my book. It is very high quality pages and binding. The colors of the book are vibrant. I really cannot complain about anything. The entire process was fun, simple and perfect. My book is 32 pages so short and simple to cover 12 years of our life! I am now looking forward to creating a photo book of our family every 3 years.
Stay tuned! I will be posting anytime Blurb offers promo codes, shipping deals and amazing sales. Start thinking of what photo books you want to design!
