CROSS COUNTRY MOVE ROAD TRIP UPDATE #2
In continuation of our Road Trip across country, below is our last half of our trip. Go HERE to see update #1.
DAY 5
We departed from Albuquerque around lunch time to head towards Amarillo, Texas. On our way, we stopped off at my husband’s hometown of Edgewood, New Mexico, about an hour outside of Albuquerque. It has been 10+ years since he has seen the home he was raised in since his mom sold the home and moved to the city. We also did a small portion of Route 66, again!
We finally crossed over into Texas and another time zone. In addition, we passed by Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, Texas. Above is a picture of Cadillac Ranch.
We reached our hotel at Extended Stay America. We ate a steakhouse for dinner that was recommended by the hotel staff. Go HERE to read our review of the hotel.
DAY 6
Surprise, surprise, we slept in! The beds and suite were real comfy at Extended Stay America. On the way out the hotel we grabbed a quick grab and go style breakfast in the lobby. We left the hotel and headed to Dallas, Texas. On our way, I was amazed with all the colors of wildflowers lining the road.
We left the hotel and headed to Dallas, Texas. We reached Dallas and boy was the GPS confusing with like 10 roads overlapping at one spot. It was very hard to follow the GPS in a few spots…guess I never realized how big Dallas was. We were so glad to reach the Hilton hotel room when we did! Kevin and Avery went to the pool for about 30 minutes while I ordered dinner. We ended up ordering in and it took about 1.5 hours to receive our food.
Also, this hotel experience was very strange. In the middle of the night sirens kept going off. We just thought maybe we were really close to a hospital. However, when we woke up we learned someone had hacked into the emergency alert systems and were randomly setting off alarms. Also, Kevin forgot his flip flops at this hotel 🙁
DAY 7
We left Dallas and headed to our next stop in Opelousas, Louisiana. We finally made it back to my home state of Louisiana! Opelousas is known for the Evangeline Downs Racetrack, Casino and Hotel. We stayed at the hotel and ate dinner at a restaurant in the Casino. The racetrack was not open but our room had a view of the racetrack. This hotel is like a party hotel. There was several events happening like weddings (at least two that we saw). So there was lots of in and out traffic from the hotel rooms and lots of noise. Luckily while sleeping we didn’t really hear much noise.
DAY 8
We left Evangeline Downs to meet my dad’s side of the family, the Boudreaux’s, for breakfast. Avery was able to see her great grandmother, my dad’s mother and my dad’s siblings. It was so good to see all the Boudreaux’s as it has been years since I have seen many of them. Avery also visited with a couple cousins that were her age. This was great as she need the socialization with kids her age after spending so many days with mom and dad! We left around 1230 to head towards Waveland, Mississippi, to visit with my mom’s side of the family. We drove to my aunt’s house where we were sleeping for the night.
At my Aunt’s house, my cousins and their children came over to visit. We always have such a fun time together. We walked to the beach then ate lots of yummy home cooked food like shrimp pasta, crawfish pasta, jambalaya and more! We also drove to Bay St. Louis later in the evening for the kids to get frozen yogurt and I snuck in an order of beignets. Kevin loves this area so much and his dream is to eventually have a house on the Gulf Coast.
Day 9
We left after lunch and drove towards Irondale, Alabama. We stayed at a Red Roof Plus+. Below is my video of Red Roof Plus+ and HERE is my review.
Day 10
Our last day of our road trip! We drove from Alabama to our home in Evans, Georgia. Evans is just outside of Augusta, Georgia.
It was very exciting when we were driving through Atlanta and first seeing signs that pointed us to our final destination – Augusta!
Our realtor met us at our new home where we unpacked the car, and we figured out what we needed to buy for the movers the next day. We stayed at a Hilton property this night.
Day 11
Moving Day!! We woke up early and ate a quick breakfast at the Hilton hotel we stayed at. Rushed to Home Depot to buy a few things we needed before we met the movers. Our movers moved us into the home. Only a few things were broken but the fun began with unpacking!! I will say this was probably one of the smoothest moves we have had. In addition, our packers and movers were probably the best we have experienced.
A little more to our move!!
Day 12
My mom drove from Florida to Georgia to help us unpack and help with Avery. She was such a big help!
Day 13
My brother drove from Florida to Georgia in Kevin’s, my husband’s, truck. We had the truck delivered to him to make our life easy by not having to rush across the country to meet the truck carrier. My brother, William, and Kevin went furniture hunting for Avery while the girls stayed home and unpacked.
Day 14
We spent the morning going to two Easter Egg Hunts for Avery to have a little fun. We went home for nap time while my brother and husband went to buy a bedroom set for Avery.
Day 15
Easter Sunday! Almost every box is unpacked from the home and we just have hanging stuff on the walls left!
SO SOME RANDOM TIPS AND INFO:
- Kevin forgot a pair of flip flops in a hotel room along with the other things we previously lost -one toddler sippy cup, a stuffed Minnie Mouse, and a set of black barbie shoes. Not bad we averaged one lost item every few days.
