DIY: Hurricane Readiness Tip
Make your own Ice Stockpile
We are a few days away from a predicted hurricane landfall. This is the perfect time to pull out those plastic freezer containers and empty your ice trays into the plastic containers. This allows your ice maker to make more ice before the storm. You should be able to fill these 3-4 times before predicted landfall.
I was able to empty mine and filled three containers today. I plan to do it again tomorrow and the days leading up to the storm! Once you fill the containers with the ice move the containers into the freezer. If you have a deep freezer fill it up!
If you need to make room in your freezer here is another tip. You may want to consider making some soups or fry some chicken to have in the fridge in case the electricity goes out you eat what is in the fridge first than move to what is in the freezer to cook!
Furthermore, if electricity goes out having ice in plastic containers will make it easy to open the freezer and pull out to fill coolers and not waste a lot of that cold air. You can also use the ice if need be as water.
Another tip for water is to fill your bath tubs and sink. Make sure you clean them thoroughly first! This will help with bathing water and if need be water to put in pots to boil!
